Austin – San Antonio NWS Office Now On Twitter!

South Central Texas Partners…

The National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio TX office is now officially on Twitter.  Our first official tweet came out this morning, Monday, July 9th.  Like anything new we will have some growing pains as we take on this social media giant.

Follow us @NWSSanAntonio

As of right now our Twitter page is not set up to be a “warning” tool.  That may change in the future…but as of right now we will be placing graphics, outlooks, and links that you will hopefully find interesting and useful.  We are also looking to  utilize twitter for getting storm reports, damage pix, etc.

And just as a side note…  while we are not expecting widespread severe weather over the next few days, daily thunderstorm chances will bring the risk of urban and small stream flooding, lightning, and gusty thunderstorm winds…all of which can bring injuries and fatalities.  Case in point…North Texas this weekend.  2 persons were killed at UT-Arlington when a crane was toppled by thunderstorm winds.  Boater was killed on Lake Lewisville when his boat was overturned by storm winds.  A paddle boarder from White Rock Lake is still missing and presumed dead, due to choppy waters brought on by thunderstorm winds.

There have been 3 lightning fatalities in the past week across the United States…1 on the beach, 1 in the back yard of a home…the other in a front yard of a home.

At 7:50pm tonight, we received confirmed reports of pea sized to half inch diameter hail (0.50″) in the Universal City area. Fortunately the storms were starting to die out as they moved into NE San Antonio, but we’ll be looking for possible rain thru tomorrow (Tuesday).
