2009 Tour de Cure Update

Attention all prospective & committed Tour de Cure Volunteers

Tour de Cure 2009May 30th – 31st

Here is an update for the 2009 Tour de Cure. It’s time to begin making duty assignments for all ham volunteers, but there have been some major changes regarding SAG Van duty.

There are only 4 full sized SAG Vans plus 5 Toyota Pickup Trucks to be driven by Ham Radio Operators, due to a donation of SAG services by a local San Antonio company who is providing both the vehicles, the drivers and paying for their fuel.

First, let me clarify points of contact… The following hams are coordinating different segments / times of the event:

  • Jeff Schmidt, N5MNW, (N5MNW@arrl.net) is coordinating
    • all Austin Hams ,
    • all Day 2 assignments for Rest Stops and
    • Day 2 Net Control / Finish Line.

If you are wanting to volunteer for Day 2, especially if you are from the Austin area, please contact Jeff direct, with a copy to Lee N5NTG.

  • David Childress, KD5MML (kd5mml@gmail.com) – is coordinating
    • Hays/Caldwell hams , and relaying that information to either Jeff (for Day 2 assignments) or Lee (for Day 1 assignments). We’d like to invite some of the HC ARES members to help out as Net Control on Day 1 from the San Marcos Finish line this year, in addition to helping out on Day 2 at Rest Stops, etc.
  • Ray McLeaird, KE5KHN (raymcleaird@hotmail.com) – is coordinating
    • all Motorcycle Safety Marshalls for both Day 1 and Day 2.

If you are planning on riding your motorcycle as part of our safety team, you must coordinate with Ray. So far, we’ve gotten about 30 MSM’s committed, which is probably more than enough for this size ride.

  • Lee Besing, N5NTG (info@sanantoniohams.org) – is coordinating
    • all San Antonio Hams ,
    • all hams not coordinated by the other three above.
    • all Day 1 assignments for Rest Stops,
    • all Day 1 Start and Finish Lines,
    • all Satuday night dorm room assignments for 2-day ham participants,
    • all (ham) SAG assignments for both Day 1 and Day 2, and

I’ll be working directly with with Jeff, David and Ray to ensure we have the other points covered for both days, and that everybody gets their free t-shirt. I’m planning on being at the finish line this year, rather than driving a SAG.

Please let me know via email if you will or won’t be available to work this event.

If you are available, please advise of your 1st and 2nd preferred assignment / location.

The routes have been changed slightly for 2009.
Maps are available for download below…

Please contact Lee Besing via email to volunteer for this important event.
