Lost Maples SNA , in Bandera County north of Vanderpool, has been chosen as the location of the “Bexar Operators Group” (W5BOG) 2009 Field Day operation. We will be concentrating on “primitive camping techniques” along with our amateur radio operations.
Our rigs and LED lighting systems will be powered by several solar energy panels and a wind powered turbine which will charge banks of deep-cycle marine batteries, making this a 100% “Green Operation”.
To further test our abilities, we will not be using pre-made antennas, but will construct new antennas, on-the-spot, which will be made to suit the available physical area allowed to us at the park. Inquiries about joining our operation, our antenna construction plans or solar energy to run equipment and lighting should be sent to Alonestaryank@aol.com
It is our belief that Field Day should test our ingenuity and ability to set up and operate station(s) running from unknown locations, as would be the case in a real emergency, which is why we change our location year after year. (2008 had us operating from the beach on Mustang Island, and in 2007, we operated from a park in the Three Rivers area.) This operation also gives us the chance to test some new equipment we will be using during our “2009 Jump Team Boot Camp” later in the year.
