I was contacted by phone yesterday by a local non-ham who was interested in talking further with the ham operator who drives a full sized white panel van which had ham license plates on it. Of course, he didn’t remember the call sign (what’s a call sign?) that would have been on the plates, but he remembered the “Radio Opr” wording.
He Google searched and found this website for San Antonio Hams, and called my number listed at the bottom of each page.
- The ham / driver was believed to be an older (?) white (?) male and was seen talking on a radio while driving.
(Hmm, got lots of possible matches so far, right??)
- The caller described the van as being a Dodge, no windows on the sides other than driver / passenger windows, full sized, white, with flashing blue and white lights on the front.
(Now I’m stumped…)
- Last location of this van was seen on IH-10 heading west out of the downtown San Antonio area where the highway splits into upper / lower sections.
I won’t post the reasons that this caller gave for his need to contact the ham driver, but I promise you it is a valid reason that any of us would want to taking the same action. Of course we would have memorized the call sign when we saw the ham license plates.
If you have any knowledge of who this ham might be, please contact me direct at 210-771-7075 or email at info@sanantoniohams.org
