I’ll be using my No-Nonsense General-Class License Study Guide (for tests given between July 2019 and June 2023). It’s available as an ebook, paperback book, or audiobook.

Ron, WA5BUG, was on his roof and was headed to come down the ladder and probably had a stroke that resulted in a hard fall to concrete. The fall also resulted in a very bad head injury and multiple fractures to many of his bones.
He was in the ICU at SAMMC for a week and a few days and never regained consciousness. His children and his wife were always at his side while hospitalized.
Ron was a good man, a mentor, and a Texas ham celebrity of sorts. He often would express his love for his family on the air.
Sadly, Ron succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning, 3-23-2021.
Rita has received an outpouring of sympathy and tributes from hams all over Texas and beyond for which she is extremely proud and grateful. Although now a Silent Key, Ron touched so many and his impression live on in all of us.
Ron’s daughter Elisa has established a “Go Fund Me” page to help his loving wife Rita with expenses.

From Carol Watson, via her Facebook post…
It is with a broken heart that I share the news that my husband, business partner, and best friend, Andrew J. Watson, K5NNN, passed away on Wednesday, March 10th at the age of 65. His death was due to complications of living with Type II Diabetes.
The family will be preparing a “Memory Book” so that future generations will know how Andrew loved life, cared about people, and had an amazing sense of humor. Please send your thoughts and stories for the memory book to friendsofandrewwatson@gmail.com. Please provide your name and contact information in the email.
Condolences may be sent to friendsofandrewwatson@gmail.com or mailed to 3530 Huntwick Lane, San Antonio, TX 78230. The family is grieving and unable to respond to personal calls at this time.
The annual Texas QSO Party starts 1400Z Saturday, September 12, 2020 and runs to 0200Z, and on Sunday, 1400Z to 2000z September 13, 2020.
The organizers have requested that all who plan on participating, particularly the very important mobile operators, send their operating plans to : routes@txqp.net If you go to their web site you will see all the counties and modes that are currently posted,
TQP gets better every year; even if you can only operate for a part of the contest, please do so — you become one more valuable QSO for someone, including the increasing number of DX operators that favor the TQP.
W2IK will be operating mobile, again, SSB on both 40 and 20 meters from a dozen counties.
They still need more mobile or static operators.

I received word that ROOST will be suspending VE Testing for ham radio licenses during the month of August. They also canceled their monthly in-person meetings for both August and September.
I’m presuming this change is due to the uptick in Coronavirus cases in the San Antonio area.
ROOST was the first club to resume testing for new & upgraded ham radio licenses at their clubhouse. Prospective hams, and those wanting to upgrade to General or Extra Class licenses, drove up to 200 miles to attend their VE Test Sessions.
But alas, with the average age of their volunteer examiners being over 60, perhaps this was a wise decision. We don’t need any more silent keys in the area.
If their testing status changes, I will post another article and update this one as well.

I just received a call earlier today, Wednesday July 22nd, officially informing me that the BikeMS ride, scheduled for the first weekend in October, has been canceled and converted to a “virtual ride” to (hopefully) still raise funds to help find a cure for MS.
This means that every 2020 major bike ride and other public service event in our area has been canceled by this virus crisis.
Looking forward to the remaining October, November, December and January 2021 events, hoping they don’t get canceled also, but I am not holding my breath.
As of today, the day before Field Day weekend, almost all of the local clubs have canceled their field day plans and a few of them are planning to use the amended rule that lets the members operate from their homes and congregate the point for a final score.
The San Antonio Radio Club (SARC) is canceling their field day operation, after originally planning to do a smaller version over at Joe Bruno’s place on FM 78. The members have decided that operating from home would be a safer bet.
The Radio Operators of South Texas (ROOST) Club will be holding a normal, but perhaps scaled down, Field Day event at their clubhouse. No camping overnight as they normally have done in past years. Masks are required to be worn for any visitors. Radio equipment such as microphones, headsets, etc., will be sanitized between operators. See their website, www.w5ros.org, for location and details.
Alamo Area Radio Organization (AARO) has decided to cancel their participation in field day. Individual members may be operating from their homes.
Kendall Amateur Radio Society (KARS) has canceled their group Field Day event, but their members will be operating from their homes.
Guadalupe Valley ARC (GVARC) will not be holding a field day operation this year. They are looking for alternate locations to hold VE Testing, but they think their July session may not happen either. They have resumed their Saturday breakfast tradition, but attendance is limited due to the restrictions on how many people the restaurant can hold under the current government orders.
Medina County (McARC) will not be holding a group field day, but their members will be operating from home under the new rules.
