AARO Sponsoring 1 Day Tech Crash Course April 9th

Just got the heads up from Andrew Watson, president of Alamo Area Radio Organization, that his club has locked in the date of  Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Incarnet Word University.

We (AARO) have co-sponsored nine one-day CRASH REVIEW courses with the Southwest Research Corporation’s ham radio club.  We have received confirmation on room scheduling at the Univ. of the Incarnate Word for Saturday, 9 April 2011.

The anticipated cost will be $50, which includes a continental breakfast, a box lunch from Jason’s Deli, and $15 fee for the test that goes to the American Radio Relay League and is filed with the Federal Communications Commission.

The first instructor will start abt 8:30 am and we hold a test session at 5 pm, with a break in the morning and afternoon, plus lunch.  Depending on how many folks attend the course and how quickly we can process each test and necessary application paperwork, it could be as late at 7 pm before the last person gets finished.  (Each exam is checked by 3 Volunteer examiners.  A successful exam then requires 3 VEs to sign two forms after you complete your portion of the forms.)

This is a crash review course.  Various instructors will cover all sections of the published question pool, theories and formulas throughout the day, but it would be best for you to buy the $21 book by Gordon West that contains the CURRENT question pool (valid July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2014).  You can get the book from several sources online (i.e., http://www.w5yi.org/catalog.php?sort=4, amazon.com, etc.)   or at the only local ham radio store:   KCOMM, 10815 Gulfdale, 78216, 344-3311
