3 Day “Jump Team Boot Camp” – No More Openings

boot_camp_logo_smThe Bexar Operators Group has closed the availability of our late October, three  day “Jump Team Boot Camp” session as we have reached both our limits of registered applicants and  filled a short standby list.

I did turn away a few people, such as a father and son team from the mid-west who wanted to “audit” (just watch) the event. This boot camp is only for the “doer” and all participants are expected to do everything so they can be prepared for any real emergency event.

Some slots were filled by hams from North Texas, Army MARS and hams from the mid-west. There were no hams from South Texas who wanted to attend. I may have to make some minor adjustments to the timing of the event in order to accommodate people coming in from out of state and so the personnel teaching survival skills can be available.

I probably will have a few of the special 200+ page session guides available after the event, replete with any additions made during the event, for sale to others.

Just an observation re the date. October 3rd is same day as the BikeMS event in San Antonio, same day as the Belton Ham Expo hamfest, and same day as the Tri-Texan Triathlon up at Canyon Lake. This “might” have had some impact on the availability of folks to do this event on this weekend.

It’s always hard to schedule a new event around everybody else’s scheduled, usually impossible to find the “one weekend” that nobody else is doing anything.

I re-worded the post. It’s a three day event in late October and NOT on October 3rd. I also understand that many hams have apprehension about deploying as a first responder to a disaster. Deploying after the fact, such as being in a shelter, is much less stressful than being one of the first teams on the scene where you need to start a communications effort. Two different animals and not for everyone. This is the reason why this “Jump Team Boot Camp” is taking place, to lessen the stress of being a real first responder.
