Due to severe t-storms which dropped as much as 10 inches of rain or more across the route being used for the 2009 BPMS150 event, and the prediction of 60% chance of more severe t-storms dropping another 6-10 inches of rain on Saturday, the executive committee met on Friday night and pulled the plug on the first day of the 2 day event. Riders will be transported Saturday afternoon to La Grange, TX (or will find their own way there in private vehicles) where they will spend the night, and take off as normal Sunday morning for the ride to Austin, TX where the finish line awaits.
Here is a YouTube video showing the La Grange Fairgrounds area on Friday, the day before the BPMS150 (video only, no audio) …
SAG drivers (like me) that were needing to get into Houston early on Friday night, so we could catch a good night’s sleep and be up and awake at 5am for our morning briefing, can now sleep in a few hours extra, get a good breakfast in the morning (Saturday AM) and mozey on over to the meeting point for a 12 noon briefing. Wow, what will we do with that extra 7 hours? Hint… ZZZZZ….
I (wisely) waited in San Antonio for the storm to pass mostly thru, prior to hitting the road and heading east on IH-10 toward Houston where we had hotel reservations. We got to the hotel around midnight and instead of going to sleep, I’m still up on this darn computer posting to the blog and checking email. Hmm, stranger things have happened. Too much caffine on the drive over from SA.
I’ll take some photos to share later, but don’t expect many more posts until after Sunday when the event is over. Somehow I think we’ll be “paying” for this extra time off, by having to work our butts off in overtime getting riders shuttled over to the “new” starting line.
