Merry Christmas

Santa HamI don’t know about the rest of you out there, but I had a wonderful Christmas this year with my family all around me, and no emergency calls from the EOC asking for hams to staff the radios due so airplanes being stranded in town, or a fluke snow storm shutting down the highways and stranding travelers here, etc.

I’ve started working on the list of known events for 2009, with the help of Gary K5GST. My focus has been first on what events the REACT Team has been sponsoring, just because I have more info on them at hand, and then adding in all the other area club events, or charity events that I know are annual events.   I’ll be updating the Calendar events page over the next couple of weeks for as much of 2009 as I can reasonably predict.

January will be busy starting on the 10th and 24th.  SARC’s Radio Fiesta is on the 10th, and REACT is working the Bandera 100k Endurance Run out at Hill Country State Natural Area.  Volunteers are needed for this 24 hour event, so contact me, Gary K5GST, or Louis K1STX direct for more info.

In February, there will be a 10k run out on River Road near New Braunfels, but we won’t need many hams to staff that adequately.  Contact Gary K5GST for info.

I know there will be a March 7th Ham Class sponsored by AARO.  AARO will also coordinate the National Weather Service Skywarn training class.

I’ll start updating the calendar list for the year, but I’ll also be posting live updates on this blog first, so keep checking back to see what’s new in the San Antonio area ham radio world. I’m also accepting applications from other hams to become editors and to report news from other ham clubs / groups.  You’ll start seeing some new names creating new postings during 2009, in addition to Bob W2IK and myself.
