{"id":4708,"date":"2010-03-21T09:02:38","date_gmt":"2010-03-21T15:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=4708"},"modified":"2010-03-23T08:23:14","modified_gmt":"2010-03-23T14:23:14","slug":"2010-beaxr-operators-group-field-day-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=4708","title":{"rendered":"Bexar Operators Group Announces 2010 Field Day Location And Operating Class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4718\" style=\"margin: 5px; border: 0px;\" title=\"2010FieldDayLogo[1]\" src=\"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/2010FieldDayLogo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"180\" \/>The Bexar Operators Group (W5BOG) has unveiled it&#8217;s\u00a0location for\u00a0the 2010\u00a0ARRL Field Day event held on the last full weekend in June.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">We will be operating from Choke Canyon State Park in the &#8220;Calliham Unit&#8221; based in a shelter (cabin). In keeping with the original philosophy of what Field Day should be, we will be testing several new antenna designs and operating our rigs using deep cycle batteries charged by several banks of solar panels. If there is enough wind, we will erect our wind turbine to generate power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Our operating class will be either 1B Batt.\u00a0or 1A Batt.<\/strong> Nothing will be pre-planned as this is a test of our emergency communications deployment capabilities. The last time we were at this location for a &#8220;Field Day&#8221; event was in 2007 when we made several hundred contacts using just a basic &#8220;Inverted V&#8221; antenna. (2009 &#8211; Lost Maples State Park, 2008 &#8211; Mustang Island)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>This year, if weather conditions permit, we\u00a0may &#8220;fly&#8221; one vertical antenna,<\/strong> for 80 and 160 meters,\u00a0using one of our weather balloons like we used during the recent 160 meter contest. Other antenna designs might include a 40 meter &#8220;Wire Beam&#8221; antenna and the new &#8220;IK-STIC <strong>4<\/strong>&#8221; all band antenna. We will have other operating surprises as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Newbies are always welcome and are encouraged to attend<\/strong> so they can learn &#8220;contest-type&#8221; (even though this is NOT a contest) operating techniques and how by properly using propagation <span style=\"font-size: small;\">characteristics their scores can be enhanced.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Anyone interested in joining us should contact:\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:W2IK@ARRL.net\">W2IK@ARRL.net<\/a>\u00a0 in advance of the event as space is limited.
