It celebrates the contributions that volunteer SKYWARN radio operators make to the National Weather Service. During the day SKYWARN operators visit NWS offices and contact other radio operators across the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio TX will\u00a0be a part of this year&#8217;s Skywarn Recognition Day event. If you wish to be a part of\u00a0the Austin-San Antonio effort,\u00a0contact Wade Bolling who will be spearheading the schedule.\u00a0 Please contact him at:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:w5erx@arrl.net\">w5erx@arrl.net<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->In other areas of the country, check with your local National Weather Service\u00a0office to see if they are participating in this event or having an \u201copen house\u201d. It is not a contest, but rather an operating event. Amateur radio operators will be on the air from National Weather Service\u00a0offices and from their home stations as well. Depending upon how many NWS stations a ham operator contacts they will be given certificates of varying levels.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Skywarn Recognition Cert from 2006\" href=\"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/skywarn_2006_w2ik.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Skywarn Recognition Cert from 2006\" src=\"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/skywarn_2006_w2ik.thumbnail.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Skywarn Recognition Cert from 2006\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"5\" width=\"183\" height=\"121\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>The certificate (show to the left) was given to W2IK in 2006\u00a0for contacting over\u00a040 different NWS stations all across the US.
