This year’s San Antonio American Diabetes Association\u00a0Tour de Cure bicycle event on May\u00a014, 2016,\u00a0will once again\u00a0start \/ end\u00a0at the Texas A&M University, located on the\u00a0south side of San Antonio, near Loop 410 and University Way \/\u00a0 Zarzamora Rd\u00a0 (outside the loop).\u00a0 The start\/finish line will be on the interior road\u00a0just north of the primary\u00a0building cluster as usual.\u00a0 There will be multiple distance routes, with the shorter length routes splitting off to return\u00a0to the finish line sooner.\u00a0 The 100+ plus mile\u00a0route is the most challenging, heading out toward Elmendorf before dropping south to Pleasanton and then curving up thru Poteet and near Somerset\u00a0before returning to the finish line.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Last year we had nearly 1,200 riders.<\/p>\n

Members of the Atascosa County Amateur Radio Club<\/a> were the first to volunteer to help us out once again. Thanks<\/p>\n

Ham Radio operators are needed to staff 9-10 rest stops, plus provide\u00a0net control back at the University.\u00a0\u00a0 We may use a personal vehicle or two as turtle vehicles (using APRS if possible),\u00a0plus 10\u00a0primary SAG vans\/trucks\u00a0which need to\u00a0be ham radio operator equipped or driven for this event.<\/p>\n

Volunteers get a free t-shirt.\u00a0 SAG Vans are provided and fuel is provided, so no money for fuel or rent will be out of pocket for the drivers. Rest stop volunteers do not get their fuel reimbursed, sorry.\u00a0 But you get to test out your Ham Radio Go-Kit setup, or just use your mobile radio and test the life of your car’s battery.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

This event is on a Saturday, May 14th,<\/strong> and will run from around 7am to 4pm for the longer routes.\u00a0 Obviously the rest stops closer to the front, or on the shorter routes only, will get released much sooner.\u00a0 This is a one day event, covering parts of\u00a0Bexar, Wilson and Atascosa counties.<\/p>\n

Assignments will be on a first asked, first assigned basis.\u00a0\u00a0 I am making the opportunity available to\u00a0help run the\u00a0net control station and to get some net control experience, for those who are tired of doing the same ole stuff each year.\u00a0 Also on a first asked, first assigned basis.<\/p>\n
