This is the \u201cno bs,\u00a0real deal\u201d of emcomm training and is as close as it gets to an actual disaster. This is the only emcomm boot camp in the country!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">You will get very dirty. You will test your personal limits.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>You will leave with self-confidence in dealing with extreme emergency communications work.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><\/em>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>\u00a0ECs and AECs from any group\u00a0are especially encouraged to attend<\/strong> so they can bring valuable information back to their group(s) and so they are aware of what any of their members will be facing when\u00a0you ask them\u00a0to deploy to an extreme disaster area.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><\/em>\u00a0<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: small;\">This boot camp will also be of great help if any group wishes to create their own \u201cJump Team\u201d from scratch. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><\/em>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Participants for this session\u00a0will\u00a0meet at a\u00a0central staging area in San Marcos, TX.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Pre-deployment maps will be given out at this time, although due to the nature of real emergencies along\u00a0any caravan route, driving directions may change due to \u201cflooding\u201d and other concerns so each vehicle must be equipped with 2 meter (simplex)\u00a0capabilities to keep in constant communications during the caravan.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>When the destination has been reached, all participants will assist in the construction of shelters and operating areas.<\/strong> We will be teaching the proper way to do a site evaluation before any structure is erected in order to avoid problems which could be encountered should weather take a turn for the worse (additional rains and\/or high winds). We will be supplying energy to operate using two types of power: gas generation, solar generation with instruction on the set up and safe operation\u00a0each system.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Since it is important that every Jump Team member have a firm grasp\u00a0of all aspects of setting up and operating during an emergency,<\/strong> special emphasis will be placed on the logical sequence of setting up (structures, power and antennas including NVIS antennas),\u00a0meeting nutritional requirements (basic cooking and meal planning), station operation, message logging\/handling (using BOTH NTS and Plain Text messaging), band propagation as well as the proper method to filter (local) water for emergency needs and how to interface with local government.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Also be aware that the actual destination will not be a local park\u00a0<\/strong>so like an actual emergency communications deployment we will have to bring everything that we need including every ounce of water. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">This location will be a truly primitive site!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Along with instructions during each phase of setting up and operation<\/strong>, there will be short lectures and discussions.\u00a0 We will check in to various HF nets during our operation and pass mock traffic (NTS and Plain Text)\u00a0to stations\u00a0who will be awaiting our messages. All communications gear, antennas, shelters, instructional booklets and food will be provided. Participants will be given a short list of what they need to bring (personal items, sleeping bags, etc).<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">A special \u201cJump Team Boot Camp Manual\/Workbook\u201d will be supplied to each attendee.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>This event\u00a0will be\u00a0limited in the number of attendees (10-12).<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Please be sure to read and study\u00a0the section on \u201cCreating A Viable Jump Team\u201d located at:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\">www.w2ik.net<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0so you will have a\u00a0basic understanding of jump team operation. Also be aware that the actual destination will not be a local park\u00a0so like an actual emergency communications deployment we will have to bring everything we need or do without! This will be\u00a0very rustic in nature. Cell phones, again this year, will NOT be allowed.\u00a0You do not need to be a member of any group to attend. We accept all groups or\u00a0\u00a0individuals\u00a0 regardless of experience.
