{"id":4493,"date":"2009-12-28T23:57:25","date_gmt":"2009-12-29T05:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=4493"},"modified":"2009-12-28T23:57:25","modified_gmt":"2009-12-29T05:57:25","slug":"chance-to-rough-it-with-your-ham-radio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=4493","title":{"rendered":"Chance To Rough It With Your Ham Radio?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Just a reminder that the Bandera 100k Ultra Endurance Trail Run is coming up on the weekend of January 9th and 10th, 2010<\/strong>, out at the Hill Country State Natural Area.\u00a0 Very poor cell phone coverage, but we&#8217;ve got a local 2 meter repeater that does fairly well, and we&#8217;ll be putting up\u00a0a temporary Ham 440 repeater and UHF Commercial repeater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We&#8217;ll be trying to communicate this\u00a0 year between check points to net control using Packet as well as voice<\/strong>, trying to track runner numbers live as they pass thru a check point.\u00a0\u00a0 So far about 550 runners have signed up for this event, which includes a 25k, 50k and 100k (they do the 50k twice) trail run.\u00a0 We aren&#8217;t talking running on paved streets, we&#8217;re talking cross country, over hill, over dale, round the tree, over the stump, thru the ravine; in other words, running thru stretches of trail\u00a0 where even\u00a0the horse patrol (yes, we&#8217;ll have them out there) and ATV Drivers can&#8217;t go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oh, and the weather?\u00a0 What about it?<\/strong>\u00a0 This event goes on no matter what the weather might be.
