{"id":2775,"date":"2009-08-23T23:31:16","date_gmt":"2009-08-24T05:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=2775"},"modified":"2009-08-23T23:39:21","modified_gmt":"2009-08-24T05:39:21","slug":"mars-react-drill-update-0829","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=2775","title":{"rendered":"MARS \/ REACT \/ NWS Hurricane Drill &#8211; Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanantoniohams.org\/blog\/?p=2659\" target=\"_blank\">In a recent posting<\/a>\u00a0by W2IK, the upcoming drill on Saturday, August 29th, was discussed in rather general terms.\u00a0\u00a0 Since that time, we&#8217;ve increased the scope of this event somewhat.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We&#8217;ve added one ARES group (Hayes \/ Caldwell County) to the mix, and have room for more if other groups want to\u00a0 participate.<\/p>\n<p>The event will only last 3 hours of radio time (11am &#8211; 2pm Saturday), compressing several days into 3 hours.\u00a0 What fun!\u00a0\u00a0 We&#8217;ll be using local VHF freqs for operations near SA and another freq\u00a0for local CC comm, plus a\u00a040 meters net for the group, and MARS&#8217;s HF freq for their internal operations.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll be using the NWS office in New Braunfels KD5UMW and Drisocoll Childrens Hospital W5DCH as net controls.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Event:\u00a0 Hurricane &#8220;Albert&#8221; is expected to make landfall just north of Corpus with maximum winds at 130 mph.<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hour 1 &#8211; Pre-Landfall<\/strong> &#8211; evacuation of residents in coastal cities in path of storm.
