Hams Needed – BikeMS October 5-6th 2019

Looking for ham radio operators to volunteer for the National MS Society BikeMS Valero Ride to the River cycling event on October 5-6th 2019…

You can volunteer for 1, or both days, as a Breakpoint operator, but SAG & Tour shadows are generally 2 day assignments.

We need to staff 15 SAG Vehicles plus 8 breakpoints on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. There are a few Shadow positions available as well. Shadows follow the key event officials around all day, like the Tour Directors, Medical Director, Police and other more important positions.

Rental vehicles are rented by the National MS Society. Vans are picked up on Friday (before 6pm) at CAPPS Van Rental across from the San Antonio International Airport. Pickup trucks are picked up on Friday from Enterprise, south of New Braunfels, on IH-35 near Solms Road. Fuel is covered by the event, so no reimbursement is needed.

Net control will be at the Comal County Fairgrounds in New Braunfels.

This is a great community service event for practicing our communication skills, supporting about 1,200 bike riders who are raising money for MS. Training will be held a week before the event, September 28 at 10 AM at the MS office.

Breakpoint hams, SAG Van / Truck Teams, Shadow operators for police and Event Tour Directors, Net Control ops, etc.

Motorcycle Marshals are being coordinated by Raymond McLeaird N5RAM.

This ride starts on the north side of San Antonio on Saturday morning and ends up at the Comal County Fairgrounds in New Braunfels that evening. On Sunday, the routes all loop out from the Fairgrounds into the Hill Country near Canyon Lake, including River Road.

Note: you can change volunteer assignments on this page by using the drop down menu. Choices include general Ham Radio Operators and SAG Teams, among others.

This is just to get your name into the BikeMS volunteer system. Actual assignments will be made manually by Lee Besing N5NTG and Mary Anne Horn N5MYN.

Contact Lee at 210-771-7075 or info@sanantoniohams.org. contact Mary Anne at 210-380-6560.
